Fire Alarm Systems for Homes and Businesses

Fire Alarm Systems Installation

The personal and financial suffering caused by having a fire can be immense, making reliable and effective fire detection and fire alarm systems for your home or business premises essential.

Mayfair Security take full responsibility for every stage of fire alarm systems development and implementation, including site surveys, system design, installation, monitoring and ongoing maintenance.

Fire Alarm Systems for Installation

Fire Alarm Systems Monitoring

Mayfair Security fire alarm systems monitoring service - First County Monitoring, connects your automatic fire detection system to our alarm receiving centre. Once a fire is detected, the alarm sounds, and a digital signal is sent to our alarm receiving centre within seconds, enabling them to call the emergency services immediately.

Fire Alarm Systems for Monitoring

First County Monitoring fire service utilises the BT Redcare, CSL DualCom and the Emizon IP alarm signalling services. Unlike digital communicators, you do not need a dedicated telephone line for monitoring. Organisation of the service is made simple as FCM make all arrangements with the signalling providers on your behalf, once an order has been placed. All that is required is a normal BT analogue or broadband telephone line that isn't used for ISDN. It can be enabled on a fax or modem line if you buy a MCD connection box.

Fire Alarm Protection System - 24-hour support

Mayfair Security fire alarm systems monitoring and security service saves lives by enabling fast alerts for the emergency services. As soon as signs of fire are detected a signal is transmitted to the Mayfair Security Groups Alarm receiving Centre and the local fire services are alerted.

With the installed system providing early warning and the Alarm Receiving Centre's rapid response, help is on its way often before occupants are aware of the problem.

Mayfair Security will Design / Install / Commission / Service new & existing fire systems NSI / BAFE SP203 fire system accreditation.

Whatever the size and complexity of the fire detection system, either addressable or analogue, for small, large, single or multiple sites, Mayfair has the required expertise.

The design team at Mayfair Security will provide you with a value for money fire and security solution that is installed and maintained by our skilled engineers.

There are several types of Fire Alarm Systems and they are designated by Letters as follows:

M Fire Alarm Systems
These comprise Manual Call Points where recommended and raise the Alarm throughout the building, usually found on escape routes staircases etc. There is no Automatic Fire Detection built in and is operated by someone raising the alarm.

L Fire Alarm Systems
These are concerned primarily with preserving life, and enabling all occupants other than those immediately affected by the fire, to make good their escape from the building. There are several categories within the L system identified as L1 through to L5 (lesser). The sub categories denote the type of Automatic sensors, sirens and beacons to be fitted and where.
As these systems are designed primarily to evacuate the building and prevent loss of life/injury then the system may not automatically call for the brigade and protection of property is dealt with by:

P Fire Alarm Systems
These denote an Automatic Fire Detection System installed to take on the additional task on not only preserving life but protecting the building and contents as well when the building is quite and unoccupied. The system should automatically dial out to the Brigade as a matter of course. Again there are various sub categories from P1 to P5, where the type of protection from the sensors used may be varied.

Fire Systems maybe configured by mixing and matching categories to produce an alarm fit for purpose in any particular premises. Also bear in mind that the construction of the building should be such that fire resistant materials are to be used which can slow down the spread of a major fire and its gases, thus giving people the time they need to escape once the alarm is raised. The object of the Automatic Fire Detection system is to raise the alarm at the earliest possible moment to allow an escape.

Suppliers and Installers of Fire Extinguishers

At Mayfair Security Group we can meet all your fire extinguisher needs. We can:

  • Supply
  • Install
  • Maintain all types of systems

We can advise you on the best extinguishers to meet your specific needs. The most common types are:

Colour-coding of extinguishers
the colour-coding of fire extinguishers to indicate the extinguishing media should comply with BS 7863: 1996: Recommendations for colour coding to indicate the extinguishing media contained in portable fire extinguishers.

Extinguishers manufactured to current standards should be predominately red and may have a colour-coded area, sited on the front, denoting the extinguishing medium. Older extinguishers will have been manufactured with the body of the extinguisher painted in a single colour. These older extinguishers remain acceptable until they are no longer serviceable. However, it is good practice and recommended in BS 5306-8 to ensure that old- and new-style extinguishers are not mixed on the same floor of a building.

Water extinguishers (Red)
This type of extinguisher can only be used on Class A fires. It allows the user to direct water onto a fire from a considerable distance. A 9-litre water extinguisher can be quite heavy and some water extinguishers with additives can achieve the same rating, although they are smaller and therefore considerably lighter. This type of extinguisher is not suitable for use on live electrical equipment.

Water extinguishers with additives (Red)
This type of extinguisher is suitable for Class A fires. It is generally more efficient than conventional water extinguishers.

Foam extinguishers (Cream)
This type of extinguisher can be used on Class A or B fires and is particularly suited to extinguishing liquid fires, such as petrol and diesel. It should not be used on free-flowing liquid fires, unless the operator has been specially trained, or else the fire could spread rapidly to adjacent material. This type of extinguisher is not suitable for deep-fat fryers or chip pans.

Powder extinguishers (Blue)
This type of extinguisher can be used on Class A, B and C fires and achieves a good ‘knock down’ of the fire. It does not cool the fire appreciably, so re-ignition can occur. It can be used on fires involving electrical equipment but may damage delicate electronic/electrical equipment. Powder extinguishers can create loss of visibility problems and may affect people who have breathing problems.

Carbon dioxide extinguishers (Black)
This type of extinguisher can be used on Class B fires and is particularly suitable for fires involving electrical equipment since it will extinguish a fire without causing any further damage. These types also do not cool a fire appreciably, so it can re-ignite. With all fires involving electrical equipment, the power supply should be disconnected, if possible. The extinguisher makes a loud noise when discharged and the horn can freeze – this has been known to startle operators, causing them to drop the extinguisher.

Wet chemical extinguishers (Yellow)
This type of extinguisher is particularly suitable for commercial catering establishments with deep-fat fryers.

Fire blankets
Fire blankets should be located in the vicinity of the fire hazard they are to be used on, but in a position that can be safely accessed in the event of a fire. They are classified as either light-duty or heavy-duty. Light-duty blankets are suitable for dealing with fires in small containers of cooking oils, or fats and fires involving clothing. Heavy-duty blankets are for industrial use where there is a need for the blankets to resist penetration by molten materials.
