CCTV installation – Time To Call In The Professionals

When you are looking at CCTV installation, it may be tempting to save some money and do the installation work yourself. However, there are many benefits to outsourcing the work, and this week will help you decide when it is time to call in the professionals.

Modern CCTV Systems

These days, advances in technology mean that many CCTV systems give you the option of watching on laptops and many have apps for mobile phones and tablets.

Which is obviously a good thing and means that you can check your property wherever and whenever, but it does mean that they can be at risk of being hacked and data breached or stolen.

By having a professional carry out a CCTV installation they can make sure that any software or hardware is as secure as possible. For example, some CCTV systems will have generic security settings that most people wouldn’t necessarily think to change.

A Much Better Picture

Having your CCTV installation carried out by professionals means you are are much more likely to have the camera settings optimised to their highest possible specification.

Which means that’s any footage is likely to be crystal clear. After all there is not much point in having a CCTV system if its recordings are blurry or out of focus!

If you are unlucky enough to have an attempted break in or other criminal activity at your property, you don’t want to replay the footage only to find that the camera had been pointed too high or that the picture was foggy.

Or that an attempted burglary took place at night and you had forgotten to switch the cameras to night mode so the recording was useless and you couldn’t see the suspects or any number plates of any vehicles used.

Also, CCTV installation professionals will help to make sure that your CCTV System hardware and software is running efficiently.

You don’t want to look for a recording or some suspicious activity only to find that your system had run out of memory or space and hadn’t actually recorded anything!

CCTV Rules And Regulations

If you take a look at the UK Governments guide to the use of domestic CCTV or the Information Commissioner’s Office Data Protection CCTV checklist, you will see that there are a lot of strict rules and regulations that need to adhered to that make sure any CCTV systems and recordings do not break the law.

A trusted and established CCTV installation pofessional company such as Mayfair Security will carry out all of this work for you and provide you with regular maintenance checks to ensure that any CCTV systems are working properly and still comply with all the necessary legal requirements.

How To Know Which CCTV Installation Professionals You Can Trust

If you have ever seen an episode of Watchdog or Rogue Traders you will know that there are companies that are less then reputable willing to take your hard-earned cash and carry out a shoddy job.

So how do you know which company to trust?

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) have a gold standard that means that if a company has been accredited with an NSI gold they can be trusted to comply with all the rules and regulations and that any CCTV system is installed correctly.

For example, those with NSI gold are inspected bi-annually to ensure that they always meet the standards required

Also, they will have a 24 hour call out service, carry out a security inspection at your home or business and be able to give you a certificate of compliance. Here at mayfair, we are fully accredited by many governing bodies. Have a look here.

Companies accredited with the NSI gold standard will also have met the ISO 9001 Quality standard, which means that they work to the highest quality of excellence in business.

The NSI website is a good place to find out more information on the NSI gold standard.

Another one to look for is are the company BS8418 compliant? The BS8418 is the British Standard for detector activated remotely monitored CCTV systems.

The BS8418 covers installation and the industries code of practice. You can find out everything about BS8418 in their guide to BS8418 here.

Lastly, look to see if the CCTV installation professionals are ASC approved.

Under the Private Security Industry Act of 2001, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) were tasked with finding a "system of inspection for providers of security services, under which those organisations who satisfactorily meet the agreed standards may be registered as approved, and may advertise themselves as such".

Companies that are ASC approved will meet these standards required.
