How To Choose The Right Intruder Alarm Fitter

How To Choose The Right Intruder Alarm Fitter

When you choose an intruder (aka burglar) alarm you want to make sure that it’s installed correctly and with so many companies to choose from we thought we would give you some guidance on how to choose the right intruder alarm fitter.

Choose An NSI Approved Intruder Alarm Fitter

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) is the recognised regulatory organisation for the UK security and fire protection industry. If an alarm installation company has been given the stamp of approval, as we at Mayfair Fire & Security have, then a business or home can be assured that the installers will meet the highest possible standards of workmanship.

Companies that have accreditation from the NSI also have to be inspected bi-annually. This ensures that the high standards they achieve don’t slip at any point.

Other criteria for NSI approval are that theintruder alarm installation company have to be able to provide a security survey of your home or business.

This means that they can accurately assess the most suitable equipment and make sure it is installed in the most appropriate place.
At Mayfair Fire & Security we carry out a full survey before any installation. So, that any companies or homes aren’t just given an ‘off the shelf’ solution that may not be the best alarm system to use.

Security Accreditation

There are several other security approval bodies that award accreditation, the first and foremost of these is the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS).

The ACS was created to “raise performance standards and to assist the private security industry in developing new opportunities.

The scheme is voluntary and was developed in consultation with representatives from across the industry.

The Contractors Health And Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) are one of the leading organisations in Health And Safety accreditation.

Their primary objective is “As one of the founders of third party accreditation we are not only a trusted advisor on health and safety compliance, we are an authority. We set industry benchmarks, provide assurance and reassurance, and offer best-in-class services that are easy to use and cost effective.”

Mayfair Fire & Security have been accredited by both ACS and CHAS, along with accreditation from Constructionline. We are an intruder alarm fitter you can trust.

Does The Intruder Alarm Fitter Install New Equipment?

When looking at purchasing a new alarm system for your home or business you want to be sure that the alarm system is new and update.

The security of your premises is paramount so you don’t want to end up being given an old alarm system that may not even be supported anymore.

Alarm installers that have accreditation from the NSI have to show that the intruder alarms and alarm systems they supply and install, are new and in excellent working order.

Certification Of Compliance

Another assurance to look for when looking at how to choose the right intruder alarm fitter is if they issue a certification of compliance.
The certification of compliance is proof that the intruder alarm equipment and installation meets the British and European standards such as the BS 5839: fire detection & alarm systems for buildings.

The Fire Industry Association have more information about the BS 5830 and other standards for the installation and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems for buildings here.

Do They Operate 24 Hours A Day?

Any reputable alarm installer will have a 24 hours call out service and a response time of under four hours. After all, any potential intruders are most likely to attempt to gain entry to a property at night so you would want to be able to contact the alarm company straight away.

Intruder Alarm Monitoring

When choosing an intruder alarm fitter, you may also wish to use the services of an alarm monitoring centre.

These centres operate 24 hours a day and give an extra layer of security, giving a business or home owner peace of mind during the night or on holiday.

Our sister company, First County Monitoring, provide 24 hour alarm monitoring services. They also wrote an excellent blog post that explained the types of accreditation to look for when you are choosing an alarm monitoring company here.
