Keyholding Services For Christmas

It doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since the UK had one of its legendary 2-day summer heatwaves, but yes, Christmas is almost upon us again. So, as it is such a busy time of year, this week we thought we would look at one option for helping businesses to successfully get through the festive period without a hitch, keyholding services for Christmas.

What Are Keyholding Services?

We are sure you will be able to guess at least part of what a keyholder does, but basically a keyholding service involves trained personnel being on call to access your property when you are not there.

Where this differs from simply giving keys to a friend or colleague is that it involves a professional and licenced (more of that later) team who are available to go to your property any time of day or night, three hundred and sixty-five days a year.

What Is A Professional And Licenced Keyholder?

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the organisation is the independent body responsible for regulating the private security industry. The SIA reports to the Government (The Home Secretary).

The SIA has two main duties “One is the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry; the other is to manage the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria.”

Effectively they make sure that any private business providing security services meet and maintain required standards.

So, if you were looking for companies to provide keyholding services for Christmas be sure to check if they are SIA licenced (needless to say, here at Mayfair Fire & Security we are of course SIA approved)

As mentioned earlier, another standard introduced by The SIA is the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS).

The main objective of the ACS is to “raise performance standards and to assist the private security industry in developing new opportunities. The scheme is voluntary and was developed in consultation with representatives from across the industry.”

So, that’s another seal of approval to look out for on any company that says it can provide keyholding services.

Keyholding Services During Christmas Holidays

Christmas can be the busiest time of the year for most businesses and even those that aren’t, they need to factor in holidays, staff leave, reduced opening hours and days.

The extra days when shops and businesses are closed can leave them vulnerable to any opportunistic burglars.

According to statistics collated by the Daily Telegraph “Each day of the holidays crooks committed an average of 448 burglaries, 65 robberies and 1,082 thefts.”

So, it is important to be extra vigilant during the Christmas period and that’s where keyholding services can be the ideal solution.

Larger companies will often have their own security department but small to medium companies may not and juggling staff rotas, busier hours, trying to fit in Christmas shopping and Christmas parties it can be tricky to make sure that there will always be a responsible person with keys who can make sure that the premises are safe and secure at all times.

Also, it is quite a heavy responsibility for a member of staff to have over the holiday season.

The keyholders supplied by professional security companies are trained to be fast responders to any alarm alerts and are also trained to carry out searches of premises.

They will give an all clear if it is a false alarm or alert the emergency services if there is a burglary or break in that has been carried out or is still ongoing.

Keyholders will also always stay at a premises until they know it is safe or the Police have arrived to take over.

It also means that managers and staff can relax over the Christmas holidays and not have to worry about being called out at 3am on Boxing Day morning to rush to work in the cold December night to deal with a possible break in or arson attempt.
